Food for Thought

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist;

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist;

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892-1984), regarding the passivity of German intellectuals

What can we do?

      Withhold donations (and tell the school why!) Did you just get your annual gift card in the mail? Send it back empty with a teddy bear! The card says that your gift will support every teacher—well, we know one teacher it won't be supporting. It's very important to explain why you aren't giving, as it can be dismissed as "the bad economy" otherwise. This is a chance to really put some bite behind our bark.

      Send more letters to the Board of Trustees. Once you've sent your letter, pass it on to post@whereisbear.org and we'll put it up on the letters page.

      Tell everyone you know. Too much of the Casti community doesn't have information about this situation. This is a conversation we all need to be involved in.
